Dale Knutson Co-owner

Dale Knutson

An “idea guy” with a never-ending supply of optimism and energy, who can survive and function at a high level on very little sleep or caffeine, Dale began his career as many juvenile delinquents do by entering the armed services (United States Navy, thank you very much).

There he learned his trade, machinist, and went on to a successful and distinguished 24-year career in manufacturing that included working for small businesses to Fortune 500 companies. Dale worked in power plants, food processing facilities, AG manufacturing and precision manufacturing plants and even achieved the “American Dream” when he owned his own businesses in small-town North Dakota.

Always looking for new challenges, Dale left the world of manufacturing to run a private training organization, where he discovered he had a passion for training and education. If the nuns who taught at the catholic school he attended could only see him now…

With a taste of what education can do for a guy, he went back to school at North Dakota State College of Science (Wahpeton, ND) where he earned his two-year associates degree in manufacturing and machine tooling. He also attended Valley City State University where he earned his bachelor’s degree with concentrations in manufacturing, marketing, and education.

Equipped with a new arsenal of skills, Dale decided to share his knowledge and experience with others and took a position at NDSCS as faculty. Dale then moved into a position at NDSCS that brought employee training to business and industry. Dale’s department experienced so much growth during his 10-year tenure (haha) he had to learn how to hire, train, and develop a staff as well as manage multiple projects and a monstrous budget. This he did exceptionally well and culminated in his serving as Dean of College Outreach Division.

Seeing the opportunity to do more through collaborative relationships and partnerships across diverse industries, Dale again established his own business (the man is the epitome of the “Workaholic American Dreamer”). Dale Knutson and True North Development, LLC have the passion for leading companies to qualified training.

Teri Ann Gullickson, PMP Co-owner

TeriAnn Gullickson

Teri Gullickson is living proof that anything can be accomplished if you have enough Diet Coke and access to training.

After a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Valley City State University (Valley City, ND) and five years of teaching 8th-12th graders, Teri felt the need for a change and began work at the American Heart Association in Jamestown, ND, while also acquiring an Associate Degree in Medical Transcription from the North Dakota State College of Science (Wahpeton, ND). While employed with the AHA, Teri wrote press releases, trained other employees, and maintained financial records. She also had the opportunity to organize state-wide legislative events for AHA staff and volunteers.

In 2003, things got a little complicated, or maybe just confusing. We’re not sure anyone really understood exactly what she did on a daily basis, but Teri left AHA to work for both the Jamestown Stutsman Development Corporation and the North Dakota State College of Science College Outreach-North Dakota Workforce Training SE Region. (Tell me that’s easy to put on a business card.) She worked in a shared position as a Training and Project Coordinator. For JSDC, Teri strengthened relationships and encouraged networking among businesses and industry in the region, and it is here where she first got a taste of customized training through College Outreach. Teri then made her position at NDSCS full-time in 2005, leaving JSDC (but not really, her office didn’t change locations) where she became the Associate Director of Workforce Training. (NDSCS is also where she began working with Dale Knutson!)

Two years later, Teri earned the promotion to Director of ND Workforce Training (TrainND Southeast). Through the college, Teri worked to help companies address their training needs, forged partnerships and helped Dale manage and grow the TrainND department to better serve their customers. She would stay in the position until 2010, when she left to join Dale and True North Development.

Throughout her career journey so far, one thing has remained a constant: Teri Gullickson has a passion for positive change, collaboration and education. At True North Development, she brings a wealth of experience in education, network and relationship building, and project management. (Did I forget to mention she also has a PMP credential?)

Teri’s passion and die-hard dedication (translation: lots of Diet Coke), works to help organizations succeed.
